Don’t uninstall Facebook Messenger just yet, the key word here is voluntary.
For those who have been using Facebook Messenger for business purposes, don’t be surprised if you are flooded with advertisements in the near future.
As per a leaked document obtained by TechCrunch, users who have voluntarily messaged a company are likely to have opened the floodgates for receiving spam, in the form of advertisements.
Before you go ahead and uninstall their app, Facebook is working pretty hard to ensure that the incoming messages are in fact welcome, thus the usage of “voluntary”.
To this end, Facebook has introduced a new feature, which essentially acts as a hyperlink for a messaging company, thus, fb.com/msg/facebook could open a message from a fan from the concerned Facebook’s page. You could think of it as a form of shortcut.
Facebook Messenger is now no more just a messaging service, it’s more of a platform for e-services. You can not only play chess, but also pester a virtual assistant or order a cab from Uber. For all of these services though, you will have to put up with ads.
