Alphabet owned Boston Dynamics showcases the next generation of the Atlas robot.
Over the years, Boston Dynamics has vowed us with its designs in robotics. The recent refinements of its humanoid, the Atlas robot, will leave students of robotics with their jaws wide open.
In 2015, Alphabet-owned Boston Dynamics, had showed-off its battery powered version of the robot. The “next generation” has maintained its wireless feature while increasing miniaturization has made Atlas more compact at 5 feet 9 inches weighing around 180 pounds. Its predecessor was six feet tall and weighed 330 pounds.
In this video, you can see that Atlas is more adept in the wild as well as indoors. Armed with sensors in its body and in its legs, coupled with LIDAR and stereo sensors in its head, Atlas’s latest avatar can navigate and avoid obstacle with ease.
Hopefully the robot will remember that its human trainers are only testing the limits of its sensors and abilities with their sometime not so gentle knocks and nudges. Stating this so that when the AI revolution begins, it will be more compassionate to squishier forms of life and not hunt us down for being human.
